Michael J. MillsMichael J. Mills is a native of Salt Lake City, Utah. He began his music education with the piano at age 8 and then continued to violin, cello, organ, and guitar before finding his home in choir. Mr. Mills began studying choral music education at Utah State University, where he also studied composition. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Utah. While there, he sang with the University of Utah Singers and had the opportunity to perform throughout Israel and Europe, where the choir was awarded First Prize at the 2009 Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition. For the last five years, Mr. Mills has had the opportunity to direct the choirs at Morgan High School and Morgan Middle School located in Morgan, Utah. Under his direction, his choirs have consistently achieved superior ratings at region, state, and national festivals. In 2016, Mr. Mills will take the reigns as Director of Choral Activities at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka, KS.
As a composer, Mr. Mills was awarded the American Choral Directors Association Student Composition Award in 2010. He continues to write and arrange new music for each of his choirs. Mr. Mills enjoys reading, hiking, cooking, frisbee, as well as playing and watching all kinds of sports, especially baseball. He is a die-hard Cubs fan. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Amanda, and their 4 kids. They are the love of his life and the inspiration for all of his musical endeavors. |
